wooden gun

In the story resistance to civil government Thoreau refers to the government as a wooden gun that would destroy itself if it was used in a real test. At first I really didn’t get it like I was confused as we were reading it. But as I read it again and thought to myself I then could somewhat understand what he meant or at least I think I do. To me in a certain way the government is already destroyed because in todays time our government is too corrupt. Everyone is crooked and use their powers to benefit themselves not the common people who actually need its help. Our government has been lying about things that I believed to be true when I was young and dumb. Like for instance the medical field with all the different types of illnesses and diseases going on we will never have a cure because they all want us too keep buying medicine only for them to keep making money instead of curing people I never understood that. So yes I do agree with the government being a wooden gun that will destroy itself look at the guy we got in office right now.
