out of all the stories we read this semester it was only a few that i can say i hated or don’t never want to read again. but out of those few the one i hated the most has to be the declaration of independence. yes i understand why we read it and the importance it has on our history. but me being the person i am i think it was pointless because ill never read it again i really can’t tell you too much about it but when it was written. reading this in class took too long and it was extremely boring almost to the point where i almost fell asleep in class like it made me feel like i was in history class i just didn’t like it all together. if theres ever a vote let me be the first to kick it off and vote to never read this again.

we read a lot of stories and there were a good number of them that i enjoyed reading. right off hand i really can’t choose which one was my favorite but since i got to choose i think it has to be the interesting life of olauda equiano. i thinks this story was a very interesting because it was a story of a slave written by the slave who encountered the hardships as a slave but was told from a childs perspective but in an adult voice. normally i don’t get intrigued into slaves stories because i normally would get angry at the situation as a whole and my mind goes into another world. but this story had another effect on me and i really enjoyed reading it.

walt whitman poems praises america as a whole for our ability and willingness to work. he pretty much covers every worker including the house wife and talks about their specific job and how they love what they do. he mentions their love for the job and how they take pride in what they do. today’s society is different from back then so yes we have changed but i still believe we have the will to work. because everyone want to have their own money and everyone wants the ability to have the finer things in life. now i don’t believe we have the same work ethic and pride that the older generation had but i believe the pride they had in their job is the same pride we have in having our own money.

fredrick doulgass is a well known abolitionist who was born into slavery and turned his life around and got his freedom and fought for his people. in the midst of it all he really didn’t blame the people who he served as a slave he blamed the system. for the people he served only were people of their era because he believe no one was born to be a slave or slave owner for it was taught and passed down for generations. for him to overcome the things he faced as a slave and to put all that behind him and too not hate his slave owners was real big of him. i understand his idea and commend him for his actions i don’t believe i would have been strong enough to do what he did I’m pretty sure i would have wanted revenge on everyone and would have got it or died trying to get it. a speaker is able to get their point across whether they have a enemy to blame or not because i get what fredrick means by them being a part of the era and him not blaming them but blamed the system that allowed slavery.

the minister black veil is about a minister who preaches about secret sin. and just like any other normal person who sins the paster himself has his own sin. so he starts to wear this black veil over his face that represented his own secret sin. so he made a promise to himself that he wouldn’t take this veil off until he died and sees God who can forgive him for his secret sin. so his followers begin to wonder about this veil. they begin to question him because they started to believe he was hiding something, some were scared because they couldn’t see his face which led to other speculations. but the pastor still refused to take it off and he still preached his sermon and at the same time he was leading by example by not hiding his own sin. i think this story should be read because it shows a preacher who practice what he preaches and lead by example regardless who believes he’s right or wrong. and it shows his belief and faith as a preacher as well.

fredrick douglass born into slavery turn his story around and is considered one of the greatest abolitionist in american history. i really didn’t know that he was a supporter of women rights and rights for the irish. after reading about him and learning about his life it doesn’t surprise me because of the things he did and how great of a man he was even though he experienced the hardships he faced as a slave. normally you would think someone who was a slave he would be mad and want revenge for the things that were done to him. but fredrick douglass was better than that and he strive for better and never hated the white man for what he did he actually accepted the fact that they were regular people of that era. as a whole modern activist don’t lend their support to help others i believe everyone just wants to get their agenda across and can care less about the next man. i really don’t know what he will say about the civl rights movement but I’m sure he would have played apart in the situation.

abraham lincoln is considered one of the greatest president of all time. he will always be remember for his contributions as president. he’s most famous for his efforts of trying to get rid of slavery and his famous emancipation of proclamation speech, and his speech at gettysburg. after reading abraham lincoln i came across some interesting things about his life. at the sometime i didn’t really come across something that surprised me because i had did my own research on lincoln a while back so everything i read was just something to refresh my memory. lincoln did things as the sixteenth president of the united states of america that had never been done before. so i agree with the ones who say lincoln is one of the greatest president of all time sadly his life was cut short and he didn’t get too reach his full potential.

after reading the pit and the pendulum i really didn’t quite understand it. or at least i didn’t find anything in there that was scary or gross or anything of that nature that brought an extreme reaction out of me. the one thing that i seen Poe use through out the story was when he talked about death. so for the most part you can say death is the one thing that was scary to me from the story. when we think about it no one wants to die and with that being said no one is prepared to die. death is one thing we can’t escape from we all must do it one day. but i guess the fear comes in because it is the fear of the unknown. only people that knows what happen when one person dies are the people who are dead and we can’t go to them for any questions.

this may seem crazy I’m really not scared of anything too be honest. like normally people are scared of dead people well for me that aspect is normal i have been around death too often i have became numb to its so seeing dead people does nothing too me. if you want to throw the wildlife in there then i guess you can say I’m scared but thats not the case thats just being smart. i know a lion, tiger, bear could eat me alive so i know not to be caught in their territory so ill never face them in that nature. maybe i just haven’t came across things that scared me in my lifetime because i have been through some things that have made me turn cold so too say something can scare me is like out of the ordinary. like i use to fear death but after my sister died i started to feel a different way about that as well because she has already experience that and we all must do and its something we can’t run away from. so I’m not going to say I’m a big bad wolf i just haven’t came across that thing that will scare me yet.

the first poe tale i read was the tell tale heart and read it in my early years at school. right off hand i didn’t like it because at this time in my life i hated reading and definitely hated reading books in class because it felt so boring to me. after reading it i guess you could say i was in between liking it and hating it at the same time. i already told you why i hated it just because i had to read it but back then i was a bad young fella so when he started talking about the dead bodies i got interested in the story. like i enjoyed as i would enjoy a scary movie and thats how i started to look at the story itself as it was a scary movie that came out years ago.
