I MEAN BEING A SLAVE PERIOD WAS HARD. I THINK IF YOU TRIED TO ESCAPE THE PENALTY WAS THE WORSE. BECAUSE IF YOU’RE BORN INTO SLAVERY THEN YOU WILL RECEIVE THE HARSH PUNISHMENT OF BEING A SLAVE ANYWAY. THERE WASN’T A REWARD FOR THE ONES WHO DIDN’T TRY TO ESCAPE . SO IF YOU JUST WAS A NORMAL SLAVE THEN YOUR LIFE WAS HELL ANYWAY. BUT IF YOU TRIED TO ESCAPE THEN THAT’S WHEN YOU GOT PUNISH. I DON’T KNOW EVERYTHING AND I CANT EVEN IMAGINE EVERYTHING THAT THEY WENT THROUGH. I PRETTY SURE THEY WAS WHIPPED IMMEDIATELY AFTER BEING FOUND THEN PROBABLY WAS TORTURED AFTER THAT SOME WHERE SENT TO AND ISOLATION WHOLE OUT IN THE SUN FOR DAYS WITH LITTLE WATER AND PROBABLY NOTHING TO EAT. AND IF YOU EVER SAW THE MOVIE ROOTS YOU SEEN THEY MIGHT HAVE GOT THERE TOES CUT OFF AND IF YOU HAD A HISTORY OF RUNNING AWAY THEY PROBABLY CUT YOUR FOOT OFF. THE TIMES OF BEING A SLAVE WAS INCREDIBLY HARD AND I KNOW I COULDN’T HAVE BEEN A SLAVE I WOULD HAVE BEEN THE FIRST ONE THEY KILLED.
RANT
I COULDN’T NAME SOMETHING AROUND HERE SO I HAD TO TAKE MY ANGER BACK HOME. I HAVE A LOVE HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH MANCHESTER RECREATION DEPARTMENT. I LOVE IT BECAUSE THAT’S WERE I GREW UP AND PLAYED THE GAME I LOVED AND THAT GYM REALLY IS THE REASON WHY I’M AT CVCC BECAUSE OF HOW MUCH I TRAINED THERE. BUT I HATE IT AT THE SAME TIME BECAUSE ITS BEING RAN BY PEOPLE WHO ARE ONLY IN IT FOR THE MONEY THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT BASEBALL. LIKE THE BASKETBALL FLOOR HASN’T BEEN WAXED IN YEARS THEY HAVE A MEN LEAGUE THAT PAYS FOR THE FLOOR TO GET WAXED AND IT NEVER HAPPEN. THEY FIRED THE ONLY MAN WHO CARED ABOUT THE YOUNG GENERATION WHO WOULD KEEP THE GYM OPEN ALL DAY AND ALL NIGHT AND WOULD WORK FOR PENNY’S. NOW THEY CLOSE THE GYM WHEN THEY FEEL LIKE IT. ITS TERRIBLE THEY CLOSE THE GYM ON DAYS ITS SUPPOSE TO BE OPEN AND WONT HAVE A REASON FOR IT. THEY PREACH THEY FOR THE COMMUNITY BUT TURN AROUND AND DO THIS STUPID SHIT LIKE CLOSE THE ONLY GYM IN TOWN ON A DAY THAT SCHOOL IS OUT AND THEN THEY WONDER WHY KIDS BREAKING IN HOUSES OR WHATEVER ITS BECAUSE THE ONLY PLACE TO PLAY IS CLOSE AND SMALL TOWN LIKE MANCHESTER TROUBLE IS EASY TO GET INTO. SO IF I EVER MAKE IT BIG IM TEARING DOWN THE REC BUILD MY OWN GYM AND THAT WILL BE THE PLACE FOR THE KIDS.
FATHER QUOTE
In the story the father was quoted when he said “well give me peace in my day.” I understand him and I believe he said it just because of how hard it was but at the same time its kind of a selfish quote especially when you have kids. For me I agree with Paine if their is trouble let it be in my day so my kids will have peace. I agree with that a hundred percent and I don’t even have kids yet. I like to believe that because I feel that’s how my parents did and that’s definitely how my grandparents raise my parents so its only right that I give my child everything he can think of. Because if I have it easy then my son have it hard and he cant make it then to a sense I didn’t prepare him to make it. Me personally I want to make it to be rich so my kids will be straight I don’t want any of my kids to suffer.
CREVECOEUR AMERICAN
Crevecoeur definition of an American was express through out the story. At first he said a American is one who fore fathers come from different nations. He describe the American of having a mixture of blood that cannot be found anywhere else like the grandfather was a English man whose wife was Dutch their son married his wife from France this is what he meant. He describe the American with all of these different background to forget all the prejudice manners of their forefathers and to adapt the new customs and new government that he now abides by. Also that he embrace his country like none other before he believe its no way you can come from another country move to America and then still praise your old country that you moved away from whatever the reason was and I agree with him on that. Creveceour believe the American is a new man with new laws, new ideas, and new opinions. I agree with him on majority of it because if you work here, live here, eat here, and raise your kids here , and take pride of America then you are an American.
AMERICAN
What makes a person a true american? I normally would say that person would at least have to be born in America to be an American. But as i open my mind to the idea that don’t necessary have to be the case. On a side note being born here establish you by birth. So to me an American is someone who love the country for both the good and the bad take pride in the nation. They know the background history of the nation they live here work here pay taxes the whole nine. Like Mrs Vance said once we are all mutts and that’s what makes us unique is our muttness. Like at one time everyone in the world wanted to come here for some reason whether it was religion, way of life, seeking better jobs whatever the case may have been they wanted to be us. Then somewhere along the way we forgot who we were and we lost our identity. Its time we gain in back and take pride in ourselves and our country.
almanac quote
Poor Richard Almanac had a list of quotes that mean something in their on way. Some of the quote I have heard before and some were new to me as well. The one that stuck out to me has to be “after crosses and losses men grow humbler and wiser.” This meant something too me because i had seen some things go on in my hometown that made me a true believer in this quote. Like my childhood friend who is really my cousin robbed our other friends mom while staying at his house. Now let me give you a back story we all hung together since daycare I mean we were together everyday at all time and we would stay over each other houses with no problem. Then this man does this this made me realize if he did this to bra then I know hell do the same to my mom. If it was me we will be at war and its sad too say that i never was cool with dude again.
first casualty
Five people were slain in the Boston Massacre the British sent soldiers to rep as police. The first person to die in the American Revolution was a guy named Crispus Attucks who was a black man. He was shot and killed during the Boston Massacre and the first American killed. The war was led by George Washington who would lead us to a victory and later become president of the United States. The American Revolution is what really got us to where we are today this separated us from anybody especially Britain and after this victory we were seen as our own country. One thing that surprise me about this whole ordeal has to be the Boston Massacre. Usually you hear massacre you think about people being murder every where I mean literally bodies everywhere you look. And it turned out to be only five people were killed during the massacre and three died the same day the other two were killed later.
benjamin franklin
Benjamin Franklin one of our well known founding fathers who helped shaped many things that are still being used today. Benjamin Franklin did a lot of things in his life time he was a politician, inventor, scientist, freemason, and a diplomat. I learned that franklin started out working as a printer at a young age helping his brother. Ben had a son out of wedlock then he married his landlord daughter and they had two children one died of smallpox. Over the years Benjamin Franklin became an inventor who came up with the rocking chair, bifocals, Franklin stove, american penny , and many other things. We all know about Benjamin Franklin and the kite with the key to test electricity. He also served as first United States Ambassador to France. He came up with the treaty of paris in 1783 which ended the Revolutionary War. We all know about his ties to being one of the five to make the Declaration of Independence and one thing that surprised me was that Franklin was 81 at the time of signing of the declaration.
FAVORITE Piece
My favorite story has to be reading about Christopher Columbus. Like I stated before after a period of time I began to hate Columbus. Because it seemed like we were praising a man just for taking another man land. Then he was painted as a hero for finding a new world in actuality it wasn’t new because the Native American were already living there. so when the Columbus holiday came I was glad we got out for school but at the same time I was like Columbus ain’t do nothing he shouldn’t be in our history. So once we started the reading and once we got done I had a different outlook on Columbus I still feel somewhat the same when it comes to him stealing the land from the Natives. But Columbus was really just a man of his time he did the same thing any other man in his position would do. Then I learn how the end of his life went down and I never knew that he had everything stripped from him sent to jail and how his last wish was to be sent to rome for his last voyage.
SINNERS OF ANGRY GOD
The most vivid image that Edwards used that I can see is when he talks about the bow of Gods wrath. He talks about how God has an arrow that is ready to strike and is aimed at our heart which will kill us. But the only thing that is saving us is the mere pleasure of God that of an angry God that has no promise to us and keeps the arrow from killing us. I feel like he is saying that we have did so much wrong that it has made god angry enough to were he would end our life but at the same time he knows we are better than that so he spares us so that we can get our life right and live accordingly to his will. Now the whole speech itself will have anybody scared if you are a believer. During this time I believe this speech scared many people straight because of the fear of going to hell is enough to make anybody do right and Edwards used many things people could visualize to put in their own perspective.
